Anyone who walks into the Academy of Hair Technology can quickly notice the difference between it and the other beauty schools in the area. Upstate residents no longer have to go to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, or Toronto to be able to take advantage of a structured educational program. Unlike the self-paced method of instruction practiced in all other area schools, the Academy has definite blocks of instruction with beginning and ending dates.
Everyone in a class is learning exactly the same thing at the same time. This system of education makes it possible for the instructor to explain the reasons why certain techniques should be employed as well as show how to perform them.
And of course, students attending the Academy are eligible to receive Title-IV Financial Aid, if they qualify, through the US Department of Education.
Curriculum:
Cosmetology
The academy is one of over 2000 schools world wide that teach the Pivot Point Curriculum. Students completing this training have the advantage of graduating from the most widely recognized training program in the world. If for some reason a graduate has to move out of this area, being a graduate of a Pivot Point school gives them a definite advantage.
Our students' outstanding performances in state, regional and national contests over the years have helped give our school a reputation throughout the state and further. Most salon owners that hire our graduates tell us that our students have the skill level of someone who has three years experience or more.
Our comprehensive, structured program taught by highly trained and dedicated teachers, along with a staff who really care about the future success of our students, has also contributed to our reputation as the up-state's premiere cosmetology school.
Esthetics
Our 600 hour esthetics program is finally a reality. What a program it is! Not only does it provide state of the art training in all phases of make-up as well as basic and advanced skin care and facials, it will include extensive training in body wraps, extractions, and micro-dermabrasion.
The training will be conducted in a new wing of the academy which is dedicated to skin and nail services. In addition to a large training area, separate esthetics rooms afford a spa-like atmosphere. Each room is equipped with a bed, a sink and a large steamer. A towel warmer is located in the general area. A private shower is available in the larger room where body treatments are performed.
The program started the fall of 2002. It is scheduled in the evenings from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm , Monday through Thursday and will take seven months to complete. Title-IV financial aid is available to those who qualify.
The academy is excited to be able to offer you this full program. No longer will people interested in pursuing this growing field have to temporarily relocate to be fully trained and ready to enter this exciting field.
Nail Technology
The academy offers a full program of training in all phases of nails. This 300 hour program is designed to train its students in the skills pertaining to manicuring, pedicures, advanced nails, nail art and nail maintenance. Advanced nails include instructions in tip applications, gel nails, acrylic nails, sculptured nails and overlays. Fiberglass, nylon and silk overlays are taught. Free hand and air brush nail art techniques are covered in depth.
This program is only offered in the evening, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night, from 6:00 until 10:00 pm.
Students in this program have consistently won awards in nail application and nail art at the state and regional levels.
