Paris Hilton Can’t Hold a Candle to Cosmetology Career Icons

Once you get into beauty school, you’ll start hearing about people who aren’t famous the way Paris Hilton is famous, but who are very well-known and respected among professionals who have a cosmetology career. Typically, these “h

eroes” start off as very talented hairdressers who go on to become educators, salon owners, trade show speakers, consultants, product manufacturers or a combination of all that until they finally reach icon status.

I’d have to say that Vidal Sassoon still is the most famous hairdresser. With a product line, worldwide salons and chain of schools, the Sassoon brand reaches far beyond the hair community into the public arena. That proves how influential a hairdresser can become. It’s been 45 years since Sassoon’s career catapulted on the strength of his innovative bob-cutting methods. It was Sassoon’s looks that first had stylists shunning hair curlers in favor of the newly invented blowdryers of the late 1960s.

But Sassoon is far from the only fame-name you’ll hear perhaps in beauty school, but certainly once you begin working in salons. There are many hair design educators whose appearances at shows and in classes make for a hot ticket. One of those people is David Wagner. He founded the original Aveda Concept salons, called Juut Salonspa, and he’s a popular speaker and consultant in the industry.
