Beauty School! But…Which One?!

My Path: Choosing the right school for you is the most crucial step to starting your career. Your education will serve as the foundation to the rest of your professional life and will carry you through this amazing journey. When I began looking I had no idea what I was looking for–where to even begin. I decided to go to my high school’s career services department and check and see if they had any information–I was the only person I knew of searching for a career as a cosmetologist; all my other friends were looking at 4 year universities. My school gave me a few tools on what to look for but luckily for me there was only one schools brochure to peel through–Pivot Point International Academy.

I called other schools in my area but the vibe was never quite right. They didn’t seem too excited about having me, didn’t schedule a day for a tour, or hounded me 5+ times a day to see if i’ve decided yet. I was so confused…I knew that my decision needed to be final, and my whole heart needed to be in it…but which one?! When I toured my first school I knew the second I walked through those double doors…the doors that opened my future.

Things to look for:

• Make sure to get a tour of the entire campus; see everything you’ll be doing.
• Check their financial department ensuring they can cater to your budget and create a payment system that works for you.
• Their team is happy to have you–welcoming with open arms.
• They offer employment opportunities guiding you to a salon after graduation.
• Check out your peers…what are they doing, do they seem happy, have THEIR expectations been met? Talk to them!

Most of all make sure it feels right. You’ll know when you’ve found the right school, it’s okay to be unsure.

My school gave me all the tools I needed to survive the real world. My classmates gave me the inspiration to keep going; hair school was the time of my life…something I will always carry with me. If there’s any real advice I can give you…cherish those moments in school, they might seem like a pain at times, but you only experience it once! Make sure you’re happy with your decision and you leave your tours with every questions answered, research! There’s a whole world out there waiting for you, start your career in beauty today.
